Animated essay

Choose a topic or controversial issue, and have your students read about and discuss it in class. Instead of writing an essay in support of one side or the other, have them create a short movie.

Students can either write their scripts ahead of time and then paste (or type) them into Plotagon, or they can write directly into the Plotagon script. Encourage them to edit their scripts to match the movie context.

Students can create their own avatars, choose an appropriate location, and record their own voices to create a polished monologue.

Monologue topic:

Should schools have classes all year long instead of a summer vacation?

Objectives:

Teach students to formulate an argument, write in support of the argument, cite evidence, and edit the argument to support a verbal (rather than written) delivery.
